Welcome To South West Strikers Hockey Club
Introduction

Hello and welcome to the South West Strikers Hockey Club Website. This site contains links to a diverse range of information, from club contacts to weekly team selections. Additionally, you'll find links to our club sponsors, associations and local newspapers, all of whose sites we encourage you to visit.

We are a small club who hail from the Macarthur area of Sydney (approximately 45 minutes from Sydney via the M5 Motorway). The club was formed to give the large junior base of Macarthur a chance to gain experience in the Sydney Premier division, whilst being able to stay associated with a local club.

2009 sees the club with 4 senior men’s teams and 2 senior women’s teams. It is also a very strong year for recruitment with large numbers of players in each grade.

Call to Arms

Did you know that one in two Australian men will be diagnosed with cancer before you age of 85? Every day 171 men in Australia are diagnosed with cancer. The reality is, it could be your father, your brother, your husband, your son or your best mate.

Call To Arms was launched in Victoria in 2007 with founding partner Essendon Football Club to support team-mate Adam Ramanauskas in his fight against cancer. Players wore yellow armbands in the inaugural Clash for Cancer AFL match against Melbourne Football Club. The match has since become an annual game between the Bombers and the Demons.

South West Strikers are answering the Call To Arms in 2009 on July 11th.  We have designated our Premier League matches against Moorebank as our Call To Arms event. All funds raised through Call To Arms go towards helping to prevent cancers in men, finding new treatments and funding support programs for men in need.

While Call To Arms is primarily a chance for local sporting clubs to rally together, many professional clubs, such as co-founders, Essendon Football Club, along with Adelaide Crows, West Tigers, Adelaide United FC and Socceroos star, Tim Cahill, have joined the Cancer Council's 2009 Call To Arms campaign.

You can help reduce this terrible statistic by supporting us in Call To Arms 2009 and help tackle men's cancer.
